CBS puts “Three Rivers” on the cancellation list

Fans of Alex O’Loughlin will have their hearts stop beating and start breaking, as CBS cancels Three Rivers.  The medical drama about doctors helping their patients find suitable donor matches for a new liver, kidney, or heart has been on life support in the ratings against Sunday night football and ABC’s Desperate Housewives since this fall.

Three Rivers could’ve filled the void left by Grey’s Anatomy on Sunday nights thanks to O’Loughlin’s Dr. Andy, who may have been the next Dr. Doug Ross on ER or Dr. McDreamry.

However, production of its 13 episodes will continue, yet there is no word on whether the final episodes will air or not.  Repeats of Criminal Minds and NCIS: Los Angeles will take over the Sunday 9pm slot.

Also, TNT has filed for cancellation of Steven Bochco’s Raising the Bar, the courtroom/legal drama starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar about friends who graduated from law school and went working as either prosecutors or public defenders.  After a strong freshman season, the series may have hit the sophomore slump, which gave TNT reason not to renew it for another season.  However, the remaining episodes, first reported by E! Online, could air next March.

Are you going to miss Three Rivers? Is CBS making a mistake?

Katie Cassidy better have her claws sharpened to defend the title, because original b*tch Heather Locklear is coming back to Melrose Place for November sweeps as Amanda Woodward, the ruthless ad executive that made Melrose the guilty pleasure of the 1990s.

Locklear joined the original midway through season one for originally four episodes, but she quickly became a fan favorite, and stayed on for the entire series until Melrose‘s lease was up by FOX in 1999 after seven sinful seasons of sex, lies, love, lust, greed, power, betrayal, and lots more.

Locklear returns to Melrose Place November 17.

“In New York City’s war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Case squad. These are their stories.”

The verdict is in, as USA Network has found Law & Order: Criminal Intent clear for renewal of a ninth season — with another cast change. British actress Saffron Burrows becomes Jeff Goldblum’s interim partner, temporarily taking over for Julianne Nicholson, who has portrayed Detective Megan Wheeler over the last three seasons since 2006. The actress has recently gave birth to daughter Phoebe Margaret this late April, her second child with husband/actor Jonathan Cake, who also appeared on CI as her onscreen love interest. Nicholson’s real-life pregnancy was written into the storyline last season.

The series, about NYPD detectives investigating Major Cases, has been on the air first on NBC in 2001, and then to USA two years ago with new episodes. The new season will be split into two and is set to premiere next spring.

NBC is rehiring Jim Rockford

August 1, 2009 by Garrett Godwin

NBC is re-opening The Rockford Files, as the network decided to reincarnate the 1970s detective dramedy with House creator David Shore.

The series was from Stephen J. Cannell, the man who also gave us such shows like The A-Team, Hardcastle & McCormick, and Riptide: mixing action-comedy with character-driven stories.  Cannell co-created the series with Roy Huggins, who was responsible for the ABC Western comedy Maverick (1957-62) starring James Garner as Bret Maverick from 1957-60.

The original aired on NBC from 1974-80 following Jim Rockford (Garner), an ex-con turned private investigator who uses his wits and his humor to solve cases in Los Angeles.  The role earned Garner an Emmy in 1977, and its popularity continues thanks to reruns in syndication and releases of all six seasons that are currently available on DVD.
