aftermath americanAftermath was released on April 15, 1966 on Decca, The Rolling Stones fourthaftermath british album. The American version, the one that I am more familiar with, was released on June 20, 1966. It included the hit Paint It Black, yet the American edition (on London) excluded Mother`s Little Helper. I purchased this one as a single. I remember that the cover pic had The Stones dressed up in drag. Also, the British version has Out Of Time exclusively, a song that was used as the theme for the movie Coming Home.

Rolling StonesEvery song on Aftermath is a Richard/Jaggers original composition. Going Home is an early longer rocker, comin` in at 11:13. Aftermath is also distinguished by some very fine musicianship from Brian Jones. Brian plays the Appalacian dulcimer on Lady Jane and I am Waiting. Jones plays marimbas on Under My Thumb and Out Of Time. Brian blows a mean blues harmonica on High and Dry and Going Home. He plays multiple guitars and keyboards as well on this project. (Wiki)

Aftermath was a SMASH HIT in the UK, staying at the # 1 spot on the charts for eight weeks. It reached # 2 on the American Billboard charts. I prefer the early Rolling Stones before Brian Jones died. They were really a different band, more of an art rock unit. After Brian died, they explored pure rock motifs, and veered away from the multi-instrumental approach favored by Brian Jones. Is that a sitar on Mother`s Little Helper? Lady Jane is like a Victorian ballad. Do you prefer the early Stones or the latter day Rollers?

I agree 100%! The early Stones showed their true talent when Brian was with them. I don’t think Jagger and Richards give Brian the credit he is due. Brian was a true musician.
