Beth’s Trivia (Did You Know … )

This is not so much trivia as it is TRIVIAL. Quite a few years ago, when J. and I were raising Bouvier des Flandres puppies, I made the mistake of letting all of them into the backyard without remembering there was a large stainless steel bowl full of leftover turkey meat. The puppies deftly ate all the meat without tearing the plastic wrap that had been over the bowl. I should have given each of them a sandwich – which leads me to the history of the sandwich. The first one was supposedly invented, probably in the mid-1700s, by John Montague, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, when he didn’t want to leave a card game. Of course, there is much evidence that sandwiches existed long before the earl became lazy.

(The same day the puppies cleaned the bowl, I discovered that an industrial-strength vacuum (the trademarked “Shop-Vac”) – did an excellent job of picking up a large, dense clump of leftover birdseed that lay in the backyard over the winter. YEP – I vacuumed the backyard! … and THEN I went into the kitchen and found more leftover turkey for MY sandwich.)
