Tiger Woods Apologizes, Do You Buy It?

“I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.
Although I am a well-known person and have made my career as a professional athlete, I have been dismayed to realize the full extent of what tabloid scrutiny really means. For the last week, my family and I have been hounded to expose intimate details of our personal lives. The stories in particular that physical violence played any role in the car accident were utterly false and malicious. Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect.”

Elizabeth Lambert: No Way To Treat A Lady *(Or Brain Damage from Beaucoup You Tube Clips)!
Most people have by now seen Elizabeth Lambert pulling the ponytail of BYU`s Kassidy Shuman. I just checked on You Tube, and one and a quarter million people have viewed the clip of ‘unsportsmanlike conduct,’ exhibited by the junior New Mexico Lobo soccer player. New Mexico announced last Friday that Elizabeth has been suspended indefinitely.
“Liz is a quality student-athlete, but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship,” New Mexico coach Kit Vela said. (Huntington Post)
A different point of view was expressed on Crimesider. They have expressed the view that it is normal for soccer players to play dirty, even in ladies soccer. “Pushing, shoving, punching and tripping are routine in high-end matches.” There is a spot of truth to this, when the record is examined.
Another point made, is it looks like the video clip is taken out of context. It might be nice to see the entire game; don`t know that I could get all the way through it, though? But Crimesider wisely points out that number 21 on Brigham Young was acting badly too. Not that two wrongs make a right, mind you.
But the real gist of this story for me, is that Elizabeth Lambert snatched up her Fifteen Minutes of Fame via compliments of Andy Warhol. I have already watched the ‘hair-pulling clip’ a couple a dozen times myself. Do you believe she did it deliberately to take the media for a ride? Is she an opportunist who saw the light? Grab your opponents` ponytail first, lest they grab yours (an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth)! As a formula you will then be blessed with IMMORTALITY IN THE LIMELIGHT OF THE MEDIA!
*Footnote: Is a conspiratorial mentality dominating my way of thinking *(in other words, am I brain damaged by beaucoup You Tube clips?) You decide…
More Bragging Rights for Ochocinco
Football? Forget that – try soccer!
Chad Ochocinco (formerly Chad Johnson) has proved his worth once again , by kicking “the decisive extra point late in the first half” of the Cincinnati Bengals’ 7-6 defeat of the New England Patriots., Thursday, August 20, 2009.
Ochocinco is not lacking in self-esteem, either, as shown by his comments afterward.
“‘Esteban’ Ochocinco is back, the most interesting footballer in the world,” {he} said. “Everyone has to remember, I’ve always said that soccer is my No. 1 sport. I think Ronaldinho would be proud of me right now.”
He got the chance to kick when, after “Shayne Graham’s groin felt sore in pregame warmups, coach Marvin Lewis decided to rest the team’s franchise player and see what Ochocinco could do.”
What he could do, was kick the winning extra point. And he made it look easy.
“Ochocinco trotted onto the field and lined up behind{ball holder) Kevin Huber. The snap, hold and kick all worked as planned.”
The Bengals’ quarterback, J.T. O’Sullivan, took it all in stride (no pun intended).
“Nothing surprises me,” O’Sullivan said. “All joking aside, he still kicked the ball through the uprights and it ended up winning the game. Some people might think it’s funny, but it’s important.”

No Age Limit in NASCAR
There is no age limit in NASCAR, as proved yesterday by 81-year-old Hershel McGriff. He competed “on the road course at Portland International Raceway, part of the NASCAR Camping World West Series” and held his own against 25 much younger drivers, finishing 13th despite the disadvantage of starting at the back of the field due to a carburetor replacement after the qualifying session.
In so doing, he broke his own record of being the oldest driver in NASCAR history. He also “was the defending champion in Portland, winning the only other time the series — then known as Winston West — visited the track in 1986.”
“McGriff won the 1986 Winston West championship, was named one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers, and was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006. He retired from racing twice, first in 1954 and then again in 2002.”

BTW, the club house is in another time zone …
If you want to play a few holes of golf at Australia’s proposed Nullarbor Links, be prepared to spend a week or two along the way.
The brainchild of “Bob Bongiorno, a former manager of the Balladonia Road House on the Nullarbor Plain,” the course is planned to encourage Outback tourists, who normally pass straight through, to gain “awareness of [the area's] magnificent geographical features and rich history.”
Nullarbor Links, nearly 850 miles long, “will be ready for the first tee-off in October and the operators have already received contacts from excited golfers in Britain, Japan and China.”
One major departure from normal golf courses is that each hole will have a pub or bar, undoubtedly well stocked with area beers – Coopers, Southwark, or Swan Brewing selections. “We’ll have 18 nineteenth holes,” Mr. Bongiorno says with pride. “That’s a big bonus.”

DETROIT: Despite a comeback at the last minute, it still wasn’t enough for the Red Wings to even the odds at Joe Louis Arena to bring it to overtime, as the Pittsburgh Penguins won Game 7 Friday night by the score of 2-1, and become the new Stanley Cup Champions.
Guess in the end, it was youth overcoming age with the rising, hungry Penguins over the seasoned, veteran Wings. But you know what they say: there’s always next season. Still, the most important thing should be is that though they didn’t kept Stanley for the second time, the Detroit Red Wings came in the beginning and went the distance to the end.

Update: Detroit won Game 5, shutting out Pittsburgh Saturday by the score of 5-0. The Wings can go back to back and close out the series tin Game 6 his Tuesday night.

DETROIT: The Red Wings prepare to go back to back as they return for another face-off with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2009 Stanley Cup finals starting this weekend at Joe Louis Arena, where the first two games will be.
“There’s no surprise this year” 21-year-old Penguins captain Sid “the Kid” Crosby told the Associated Press Friday. “We know what to expect. Even a simple thing like today, coming in we know what to expect.”
The Wings defeated the Penguins in six games and took home the cup the previous year. Now, the defending Stanley Cup champion’s plans to go two for two again for the first time back in 1997 and 1998.
“It’s fun when you look back at some of the pictures when we tried growing beards and still had a little of the baby fat going” said four-time Cup winner Kirk Maltby. “Now the roles are reversed and we’re the older guys. To be able to get here for a fifth time is something I never would’ve dreamed of.”
