Dude Sells Rare “Archie” Comic Book To Protest Marriage Of Archie & Veronica

“To protest the upcoming nuptials of comic book icon Archie to the spoiled, raven-haired Veronica, Richmond resident David Luebke sold his rare 1942 ‘Archie’ No. 1 comic book yesterday for $38,837 at a Dallas auction.
Luebke, who owns Dave’s Comics in the Village Shopping Center at Patterson Avenue and Three Chopt Road, was also hoping to make a little cash.
‘I’m very pleased,’ said Luebke, who will make $32,500 from the sale, with the rest going to the auction house. ‘I can’t be upset.’
I’m not convinced by Luebke’s faux rage at the impending nuptials of Archie and Veronica, it’s simply a publicity stunt. But there are some adults who are heartbroken because Archie has dumped Betty the all-American girl in favor of spoiled Veronica.
You would think these jugheads would have more pressing things to worry about, like the wretched state of the economy or the senseless war in Afghanistan.
When I was about 9-year-old I was really into comic books, but when I became a man I put away childish things. Although I was never a fan of Archie, I preferred more macho fare like Batman and Superman.
But I guess that if collecting comic books can be so lucrative, maybe it’s not so childish to collect them.
