phoenixPhoenix is a French band that is doing quite well with their new record, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. My nephews told me about them when I was I on vacation just recently. Phoenix has been around since the late 1990s and is from Versailles, France. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is there fourth album, and they have been promoting it heavily, putting in appearances on Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Show with David Letterman. They will play many live dates in the States in September, and to my surprise with play at the Austin City Limits Music Festival on October 2nd. I will definitely make a point to see Phoenix on that date!

Their music reminds me of the late New Wave Movement of the early 1980s. I would also liken it to the Euro-Dance Pop trends of recent memory *(I wouldn`t know). I have observed, however, that the instruments are homogenized (disguised) into the mix, projecting a monolithic pop sound. Lisztomania is about the hysteria surrounding the pianist Franz Liszt, an early incarnation of the ever dwindling sensation of our Rock Star. My favorite is 1901 or perhaps Rome; come to think of it, Love Like A Sunset, Pt. 1 is way cool too. Let me know what Phoenix does for you *(especially you younger people)!

* Be sure to check out my review of sixteen of Elvis` Solid Gold Records! I`ll buy you a Cadillac if you do.
