No Western leader could get away with having a women-only corps of bodyguards, or requesting a meeting with 700 Italian women.

If President Barack Obama told his wife, “Honey, I think I’m going to replace my Secret Service agents with an all female corps of bodyguards”, he would find himself sharing living quarters with the White House dog.

But none of Libyan leader Gaddafi’s wives would dare utter a word in protest.  Libya is an authoritarian regime and nobody, especially not a woman, would dare to question Gaddafi’s actions. If Gaddafi decided to convert one of his mansions into a harem, you wouldn’t hear a peep of protest from his wives.
