Iggy Pop and the Stooges Play “Raw Power” at All Tomorrow`s Parties!

Well, I`m trying to see how the rock festival, All Tomorrow`s Parties went over. The only way to do that is to seek out a music critic`s coverage of the event. Ben Ratliff, from The New York Times wrote a nice summary of the festival, titled: Body Language, Translated and Remixed. Ben spent the first 3rd of the article covering Iggy and the Stooges, who played their 1972 record, Raw Power, in its entirety.

Ben gives them high marks, saying The Stooges played Raw Power “just about perfectly.” The original guitarist for Raw Power, James Williamson, was there at the Kutsher`s Country Club, and was able to simulate his riffs from 38 years ago. Without James Williamson, Iggy and the Stooges would not have been able to recreate the scorching Pre-Punk licks of Raw Power. Also, (I might add) Williamson is credited as co-composer of this 8 song record.

I`m no authority on Iggy Pop, by any means. Sure, I have a handful of his records, like one best of. But for just $8 bucks, I broke down and picked up Raw Power on itunes this morning. This is a classic I just had to have. And sure, that leaves me with about $13 left in my checking account for the remainder of the month. But I can`t make it through the month without it *(Damned if you do, and damned if you don`t). The last note for Death Trip just echoed from my broken Altec Lansing computer speakers. Go & figure! I`ll survive somehow?
