Andrea BocelliIt looks like Andrea Bocelli`s My Christmas will be the biggest seller this year, as far as newly released Christmas records go. Andrea is shooting for UNIVERSALITY, by singing many of the classics in several languages. I`m hearing Italian, French, German and English so far. At times, three languages are inserted into one yuletide tune. There are 15 songs and I seem to be familiar with the lionshare. Blue Christmas with Reba McEntire is sticking to me (and on me) most for now. Reba sounds like Tammy Wynette in intonation. I haven`t seen the PBS special yet, but will.

The record is highly produced with strings, keyboard of all sorts and beaucoup Christmas treeangelic choir ambience. David Foster is the producer and arranger, a most polished record. I didn`t know that O Holy Night was originally a French poem by Placide Cappeau, with Adolphe Adam writing the music in 1847. My favorite version is the one done by Andy Williams back in the 60s. Bocelli does it in French, Cantique de Noel.

The Jingle Bells take is zany with a guest appearance by The Muppets. My Christmas is currently # 2 on the Billboard 200. Only Susan Boyle has topped the Italian crooner so far! No doubt, people will be pulling out their favorites, Frank Sinatra, Phil Specter, Elvis, Andy Williams (my fave), and Charlie Brown. But for new recordings, I would recommend My Christmas. “A miracle has just begun, God Bless Us Everyone!”
