Jeff Beck gets his 5th Grammy for “A Day In A Life (Live)”!

At this very moment I am listening to Jeff Beck`s A Day In the Life (Live), for which he won his 5th Grammy, in the best rock instrumental category. It`s a must have and only 99 cents on itunes. Jeff brings this Beatles` classic back to life and sends it on an orbital path around the sun, as only he can do. The final crescendo of an entire orchestra is equally captured on a six string electric guitar. I was surprised to see Jeff Beck perform on the Grammys a few weeks ago, when he did a flawless tribute to Les Paul.

Seemingly something of a recluse, his visibility has been noticeable over this past year. Jeff is 65 now, but looks to be in great shape, perhaps because he`s a vegetarian. I have been engaged in my own private retrospective of his stunning career today (President`s Day) and am listening to the only two records of his I own, Blow By Blow (1975) and Wired (1976). These are his two most popular records and were produced by none other than George Martin. Eclectic by nature in his choice of music, Jeff breaks some ground here in the rock-jazz fusion genre. At one time I had both Truth and Beck Ola, classics themselves with Rod Stewart on vocals. In fact, You Shook Me from Truth predates Led Zeppelin`s You Shook Me from Led I. Both are killer, though! And now I just heard that a new Jeff Beck record will be in the stores in April! The title is Emotion and Commotion and I`m experiencing some excitement as I look at the track titles, such as: Over the Rainbow, I put a Spell on You and Elegy from Dunkirk from the movie Atonement. Who are the five greatest rock guitarists of all time? Hint: Jeff Beck is amongst those five!
