Polish Priest Checks Fingerprints For Mass Attendance

“A Polish priest has installed an electronic reader in his church for schoolchildren to leave their fingerprints in order to monitor their attendance at mass, the Gazeta Wyborcza daily said on Friday.

The pupils will mark their fingerprints every time they go to church over three years and if they attend 200 masses they will be freed from the obligation of having to pass an exam prior to their confirmation, the paper said.”

This story is very disturbing on so many levels, it makes me yearn for the day when organized religion loses its grip on desperate souls.

Is attending mass such a loathsome prospect that kids have to be bribed? The answer is of course yes, I remember when I was a kid how bored out of my skull I was at mass.

Poland is a devoutly Roman Catholic country, and the priests can get away with shenanigans like this. If a priest in New York City installed an electronic reader in his church it would be stolen on the very first day, and it would soon be for sale on eBay.
