DETROIT (Free Press): The Red Wings must continue to fly high in the playoffs, as the Stanley Cup champs play Game 7 Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena in the Western semifinals with the series tied at 3-3.  Whoever wins will play the Chicago Blackhawks in the Conference finals.

The last time Detroit has played Game 7 was back in 2002 when they beat Colorado 7-0, and went on to win the Stanley Cup; Kirk Maltby was one of the Wings from that year.

“If I recall correctly”, he said, “As a group we were pretty calm.  The cards are laid on the table and you know what’s at stake.  There’s no sense in making more of it than what it is.”

UPDATE: Despite the declining automotive industry, Detroit was still Hockeytown inside Joe Louis Arena Thursday night, as the Red Wings won both the second round of the playoffs and the crucial Game 7 — defeating the Ducks Thursday night by the score of 4-3.

The defending Stanley Cup champions advances to the Western Conference finals hosting the Chicago Blackhawks in the first two games, which starts Sunday.
