DETROIT: The Red Wings could be flying one victory away from the Conference finals, as they returned home Sunday and defeated the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena by the score of 4-1 — giving them a 3-2 lead in the Western semifinal series.

This has been the 11th Game 5 Stanley Cup champs Wings has played in the past decade with the series tied at two apiece.

“Over a seven-game series”, forward Dan Cleary said to the Free Press Monday, “our depth has the ability to wear down the defense and the opponent’s top line.  They might not feel it in Games 1 and 2, but you see it now in Games 4 and 5 – our depth pays off.”

If Detroit wins Game 6, they’ll either played Vancouver or Chicago — who leads at 3-2 — in the Western finals; it’ll be this Tuesday night at Anaheim.
