Simon Cowell`s a cat who will land on his feet!

Simon CowellI have been reading over the news this morning that Simon Cowell will be leaving American Idol after this coming season. Simon will, however, bring his U.K. talent show, The X Factor, to the U.S. It will still be on Fox, so the people at Fox may still be able to retain their loyal humongous audience. American Idol has been the single show that has propped up our ailing music business.

The question is whether it`s been Simon`s grating personality that has made the show so popular, or whether AI just naturally fulfills a niche of popular sentiment. I believe that since Paula Abdul left, it`s not nearly as good. The metabolic mix of Cowell and Abdul (bad cop and good cop) was magic for TV! Given the draw that Cowell can harness, he may just pull it off? A good thing for The X Factor is that it will include older geezers, like Susan Boyle, as well.

I`m not so much in the know on these matters, Judyth Piazza is more on top of this topic. But I did learn this morning that there exists an American Idol historian, Richard Rushfield. That just raised my opinion of Idol and Cowell-they have their own historian. Simon is a cat who land on feet, you know it! He`s holding the cards, not Fox…

Too Racy for Daytime TV: Adam Lambert or General Hospital?

“I’m a 68 yr old Grandmother, having watched GH and all ABC soaps get raunchier and more explicit every year for an hour at a time…3 hours a day. I cannot believe the fuss over Adam Lamberts 3 minute exercise in bad taste. He has overwhelming talent… do you not play “Mad World” during almost every show for months now??” Adam Lambert By Far The BEST Talent American Idol Has Seen to Date

Do you think Adam Lambert went over the top? Will ABC be ready to forgive and forget?

If Paula Abdul has any resentment towards Ellen DeGeneres for grabbing her old “American Idol” job, she’s certainly not showing it.

Photogs caught Paula in NYC yesterday and she said she thought Ellen will be “great” on the show.

But really, what did you expect Paula to say?

What do you think? Do you think Paula is really happy about this?

American Idol Comes Out of the Closet: Ellen DeGeneres?

Show’s choice of Ellen DeGeneres is a smart one.

Landing Ellen DeGeneres — who’s more famous than anyone on the current panel, save Simon Cowell — is a coup for “Idol.” She brings her own fan base, something that could prove valuable as “Idol” continues to fight the natural audience erosion that’s a given for any older show. [TheWrap]

I am personally not happy about this decision. Are you?

It has been a sad week, as we mourn the loss of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson.

Ed McMahon died Tuesday of health problems at the age of 86.  He was best known as announcer of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson from 1962-92 with the catchphrase “Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Johnny!”  He also co-hosted TV’s Bloopers & Practical Jokes with Dick Clark, and hosted Star Search, the predecessor of American Idol and America’s Got Talent.

From sex symbol to iconic Angel to acclaimed actress, Farrah Fawcett has reinvented herself time after time throughout her career.  She died Thursday morning at the age of 62 after losing her three-year battle with cancer.  Longtime soulmate Ryan O’Neal and BFF Alaina Stewart were among those with her in the final moments of her life.  Besides Ryan, Farrah leaves behind their son Redmond, 24.

Fans are still in a state of mourning and shock over the sudden passing of Michael Jackson, who died Thursday afternoon at the age of 50.  Through his career that has spanned four decades; he has gone from teen idol to the undisputed King of Pop with his songs, his hat, his signature glove, and the legendary Moonwalk dance — opening the doors for artists such as Usher and Justin Timberlake, and for groups like New Edition.

Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson: three icons in music, film, and television that made us laugh, cry, dance, sing, and hope for a better future.

American Idol: The Goth (Adam) Verses The Boy Next Door (Kris)!

kris-allen3I was bug-eyed as I watched American Idol Wednesday night, what a spectacular pageant it was! The highlight for me was seeing Carlos Santana who is a guitar virtuoso that I have always worshiped. That is the first time I have ever seen Amer-Idol, but I got a signal from Upstairs to get off my Woopie-Cushion and peck out a few sentences interpreting the dramatic upset victory of Kris Allen.

For one thing 100 million people voted for their preferred contestant, a number that is astonishing in terms of libidinous curiosity. Overall, I thought that Adam Lambert was a better singer, and could belt out those notes with bombastic ferocity (he was perfect with Kiss)! His costumes were over-the-top too, and gave him a wicked edge, but he looked like a Bad Guy in a Hop-Along-Cassidy episode. The genuflection of his frothy, freely flowing bangs contributed to his resemblance to Damien Echols, a misunderstood Goth convicted of the Child Murders at Robin Hood Hill. I do not think Damien did it, but that`s a horse of a different color.

By contrast, Kris Allen is a master of understatement. He is very clever indeed! He is all innocent and gaw-lee-gee-wiz, like Gomer Pile. This may be just an act, but that`s okay. If he is an excellent actor, then the kudos are all the greater, I should think! He`s good at Country Rock, and this has a very big audience. He reminded me of a young Glen Campbell, a marvelous crooner, a ladies man, with mass appeal to Middle America. This is why Kris won, he was the underdog, and people love for the little guy to emerge out of the scrapheap as a winner…talk to me!  P.S. Kris also reminds me of David Cassidy of The Partridge Family.
