The Magic Christian-A Reminder To Forget, But Lots Of Fun! Huh?
Today is Friday. I need to keep it light and happy or I fear my stress level will overwhelm me. The light British comedy The Magic Christian is just the medicine for what ails (corrected Ringo malpropism, ills) me. (What that is exactly eludes me?) A few weeks ago I was
studying up on Apple Records, and this film made in 1969, starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, kept popping up in the linernotes I was reading. I saw it when it originally came out but could only remember the theme song, Come And Get It, along with the final scene where Greedies go for the money in a fountain filled with urine and feces. Who could forget that?
What can you say about this film? Not much. The plot is nothing, just Peter and Ringo knocking around London playing pranks on the pillars of society. Peter just cut up a Rembrandt with John Cleese looking on as a Sotheby`s auctioneer aghast. I`ll just be half-way through the MC when I post this, so will have to get back with you for a sounder assessment. Not too impressed so far, but at least you don`t have to think! Succinctly, it`s a sneak peak at what Monty Python would become.
Ringo Castigates the Vatican!
In an interview with CNN `s Becky Anderson, Ringo Starr scolded *(mocked) the Vatican for vindicating The Beatles after condemning them as satanic earlier on.
“Didn`t the Vatican say we were satanic or possibly satanic-and they`ve still forgiven us? I think the Vatican, they`ve got more to talk about than The Beatles.” Ringo
Starr`s 15th solo album, Y Not, is just out and he will tour this summer. And Ringo still says NO TO AUTOGRAPHS! I guess his writing hand is worn out…better save it for drumming.
“Honey Don`t”-Ringo gets Hollywood Walk of Fame Starr!
Ringo Starr was the 2,401st celebrity added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Monday Evening. The ceremony was held outside the Capitol Records building, The Beatles` label here in the states. “It`s cool to get one at night,”
said Starr. “I don`t know about you, but where I live, the stars come out at night.” (Yahoo! News)
George and John each have a star, but Paul has yet to receive one. Ringo certainly has had a sterling career though. Drumming for The Beatles is, of course, his number one claim to fame. His signature drum parts on Beatle songs are highly original. And he has appeared in countless films that tend to showcase his superb acting ability. My favorites are: The Magic Christian, Candy, Caveman and don`t forget, 200 Motels!
Ringo continues to drum and tour with Ringo Starr & His All-Star Band. His latest record is Y Not, which I deeply regret admitting, have yet to hear. My fave of his solo albums is the 1973 Ringo. He`s had some memorable solo hits also, like It Don`t Come Easy, Photograph, You`re Sixteen and the No No Song. He met his wife, actress Barbara Bach, on the set of Caveman (1980). Ringo was the first Geico Caveman, don`t you think?
