The Shoe Is On The Other Foot Now

“An Iraqi reporter imprisoned for throwing his shoes at President George W. Bush found himself on the receiving end of a similar footwear attack in Paris Tuesday.

Muntazer al-Zaidi, whose flare-up against Bush last December turned into a symbol of Iraqi anger, was speaking at a news conference to promote his campaign for victims of the war in Iraq when a man in the audience hurled a shoe at him.”

I guess the shoe is on the other foot now…

The shoe hurler was an exiled Iraqi journalist who spoke in defense of the American military presence in Iraq. Zaidi can’t very well complain, he’s getting a taste of his own medicine.

I hope this shoe-throwing fad doesn’t catch on in the United States, I don’t want to be dodging shoes because of my outspoken criticism of American intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s bad enough to have my inbox flooded with nasty emails calling me everything but a child of God.

Zaidi served a year in prison for throwing a shoe at President George W. Bush, but I doubt if the journalist who threw a shoe at Zaidi will serve any time in jail.
