On October 29, 1964 a show was filmed in Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in California. This is known as The TAMI Show, which stands for the Teenage Awards Music International. The line-up for this show was out of this world! It
included: Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer, The Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Leslie Gore, Chuck Berry, the Barbarians and the incomparable James Brown, the Godfather of Soul.
On Tuesday, March 23rd, you will be able to get the DVD that documents this show. Previously, it was just an underground item, but very high in demand. Many have claimed that James Brown`s performance is the greatest overall Rock `N` Roll performance that was ever given. I have seen Mister Brown strut his stuff on this tape (VHS), and I believe this to be true. His Night Train is as FINE as it can be!
I will have to get this DVD and you should too. This type of show could only happen once in a lifetime. Keith Richards said, “really kaleidoscopic.” The lineup was so unusual, with surf acts (Jan and Dean actually MCd), Brill Building artists, Motown and British Invasion sensations all in one. Now we can relive it over and over again! (source-The New York Times-Pop History Revealed! Doing Splits!
