The traditions Of Pop Star Worship Will Only Grow!

It`s hard to say exactly when the tradition of ‘Worshipping Pop Stars’ begins its existence? Maybe it was with Frank Sinatra or maybe much earlier; perhaps it was in the 1st century AD with the Romans, and the the ‘Cult of the Emperor.’  The certified emperor Nero was a lyre player, singer, and poet who went on world tours and forced his victims *(citizens), at the threat of death, to listen to his rambling Odes To Illium. Anyway, we know this phenomenon, this ‘Cult of Worship,’ crystallizes in earnest with Elvis Presley. And in my early days, I witnessed the zany antics of ‘Beatlemania,’ where young girls experienced metabolic metamorphosis when eyeing and hearing the electric guitar emissions and WOOS of The Fab Four. This was always perfectly reasonable to me.

I do this with JFK, so it`s not that weird to me. It has just been reported that Michael Jackson may be buried at Neverland Ranch, after some hurdles are cleared with the county. A light bulb came on and the Graceland icon popped up in my brain. I am thinking that MJ devotees will flock to Neverland, just as Elvis Worshippers would embark on an adventuresome Mecca to Graceland to ogle the personal affects (& whims) of the King of Rock & Roll. We will just have to see how far this MJ worship goes or (grows)? We are already seeing many analogies drawn by Pop-Soothsayers, between Elvis and Michael Jackson.

The connection with prescription drugs is obvious, but nonetheless shocking! Both had exotic lifestyles and would frequently go on astronomical shopping-spree-blowouts! You may want to review the Albert Goldman volume on Elvis. Elvis thought of himself as a God well before his death! *(I suspect that MJ did as well.) And don`t forget that Jackson married Lisa Marie, even if the wedlock was but for a short time. The cult-ball got rolling yesterday when Madam Tussaud`s unveiled the MJ wax figurine in NYC! I will theorize here that people worship Pop Stars as an odd surrogate for religion itself. They can`t quite find what they are looking for in organized religion. But heretically speaking, they do ‘get what they need’ from Elvis, Beatles, & Michael Jackson. The Trinity are together now in heaven. Go and figure!
